Our favourite kid friendly Halloween movies

We love our family movie nights in our house. Popcorn, chocolate, big fire on and a good movie. I've got so many Christmas movies as does everyone else but today I'm sharing our favourite Halloween movies. 

Halloween is my second favourite holiday. I lave decorating the house and carving pumpkins. We've watched a few of these movies already. Some I've got on dvd and some are recorded on the tv. Tesco have a great selection at the moment and they're only €5. That's a bargain right there.

My favourite is the Addams Family. I've loved it since I was a kid. I wanted to be Wednesday Addams when I was younger. The kids are loving Monster House and Scooby Doo. We're sitting down to watch Casper later. It's a classic movie that the whole family can watch.

Halloween Party Games round-up

It's that time of year when all the scary and spoooky goblins get together and party like its going out of fashion. I love a good party and nothing makes a good party better than party games and activities. We're having a little get together on Halloween night with bonfire sparklers and we might even get to see some fireworks. 

I've rounded some of favourite games and activities that I like to do and a few new ones to try on the night like the bowling games. I love the sweet twist on the hanging apple game. Who doesn't love donuts, right?

Favourite Things Friday

Happy Friday Friends.

Can you believe that mid term is almost over already? I'm not looking forward to early mornings and homework again. Boo! We've had a busy week here. Crafting away and decorating for halloween. Top pumpkin carving tips & templates

In preparation for our carving day next week, I'm putting together a few of my top tips for making your carving time as stress free as possible and ways to make your pumpkin last longer.

Top pumpkin carving tips:

Top or Bottom? Choose whether you want to cut a lid at the top of your pumpkin, or cut a hole at the bottom. I prefer cutting a keyhole in mine. It makes it much easier for kids to scoop them out.

Use a big spoon or an ice-cream scoop to scrape out the seeds and guts. 

Draw your design using washable markers. It can be removed easily later using a baby wipe.

A small, serrated blade is best to cut your design with.

Don’t panic if the kids get a bit excited and cut off the pumpkins nose by accident. You can use a toothpick to stick it back on.

Vaseline will stop your pumpkin from drying out, so rub plenty around all the cut edges.

Rub the inside of the pumpkin lid with ground cinnamon or my favourite, cloves, to give a lovely smell as the candle heats it.

If your  putting your pumpkins outside, put your candle in a glass so that the wind won't blow it out.

Place an opened packet  of silica in your beautiful carved pumpkin and it’ll make it last about a week longer without getting flimsy and old. Who would have ever thought, it’s perfect!

If your not great at free-handing faces on the pumpkins, you could use a template. There are loads on the internet and Pinterest. Here are a few of my favourites. Here and here.

Halloween

This has been the best Halloween ever since Jasmin was born. She really got into the swing of things this year. Love dressing up! She decided to go as a witch. thought she would never make up her mind. Little man went as Dracula. I was a witch. My mother was a witch and my sister went as Wednesday Addams.

It was our turn to host the Neighborhood Halloween Party.

Here's what happened. I'll let the pictures do the talking from here. 

Oh, almost forgot to tell you all. Because I did such an amazing job (not my words) of decorating and organizing the party, I have been hired to do it all again next year for one of the neighbors. Can you say excited.

Halloween decorating : The tour

Halloween decorating is well under way here and I love it.

I didn't go too mad cos the hubs isn't a Halloween fan but I did just enough for the kids.

These are my Halloween Luminaries that J and I made.

They look even cooler than I had hoped lite up.

The bats on the lamp are cut outs that came in a pack. Just stock them on with double sided tape.

 Our bedroom door. Might leave that there all year round.

The bathroom door. If there's a man in your house you know that this is necessary. :)

A felt "Boo" sign for P's door.

And one for J's door too. (cute ,right?)

There was a 'Boo' sigh in the middle but the stupid wind blow it off before I got a photo.

All the front windows have stickers and banners on them.

J made this in Montessori last year. Very talented. (must take after her mother. hehe!)

The back door. A little boring. I'm gonna work on that.

These little guys used to light up last year but stopped working.

I'm gonna pop some of those battery operated tea lights into them to get them going again.

This is Jack. He's the newest member of the family. He's not a big eater.

Made it using black crepe paper and tape.

And that's it.

Maybe I went a little overboard. Oops!

I have nailed down J and P's costumes but mine is still in the making. And I mean 'making'. Mother and I will be sewing up a storm over the next week to try get our costumes done. Just a quick stop at the charity shop first for some supplies.
